Dinan is a captivating town. The medieval centre is small enough to explore on foot but with plenty to provide interest for a vacation of one or two weeks or more. Wandering through its cobbled streets between timber framed buildings you will feel as if you are on a film set. However, Dinan is not just a tourist attraction. It is a vibrant town where people live and work throughout the year. The market is held on Thursday morning. During the summer there are many small events and attractions and every two years the town stages its well known Fête des Remparts, one of the biggest medieval festivals in Europe, when Dinan returns to the Middle Ages for a weekend of jousting, battles etc. Great fun for all the family.

Situated on the outskirts of Dinan, just a short walk along the towpath is the attractive village of Léhon, where several of our cottages are situated. Léhon is almost too pretty to be true. The single street, leads from a romantic ruined castle atop a hill down to a little hump backed bridge over the river, passing a superb abbey church and cloisters on the way. The street is pedestrianised and the stone cottages which line it are bedecked with flowers throughout the summer. There is a popular small restaurant near the bridge. Further up the cobbled street, past the abbey, is the heated open air swimming pool and a smaller pool for little children. Just past this, at the top of the village, there are indoor tennis courts. Also a bar/tabac and a baker with excellent baguettes, croissants and fruit tarts. A few minutes along the road towards Dinan is a superb butcher (who also has a few basic groceries). All within a few minutes stroll. For serious shopping the Leclerc hypermarket is a 5 minute drive.

The town of Dinan is located on the stunningly beautiful river Rance, about 30 kilometres south of the walled city of St Malo, from which pirates and explorers sailed forth in earlier times. Ideally situated for access from the Channel ports and only 25 minutes from Dinard airport. Road and rail links from Brittany to the rest of France are excellent. Rennes, capital city of Brittany, is just half an hour’s drive. Paris is 2 hours from Rennes by TGV.
